Tweeting Rick Allen

I've been a huge Def Leppard fans since I was maybe 8 years old. As you can tell, leppard and I go way back. As I was looking through the Def Leppard's home page last night, I saw that Rick Allen, as well as Phil Collen, has a Twitter account. Now Twitter, in my opinion, is a rather stupid web site. It is sort of like a mini blog site in which you can type short blog messages. But your "Tweets" are very limited and if your not a celebrity then nobody cares to follow your tweets. All though I did have an account for promotion of my web show and to help Friday night cranks with the trending topics list, I did not use it much. Now that I saw Rick Allen had a Twitter, I thought "I've got to check this out. And it turns out, he actually tweets back and fourth with fans! That is awesome and It's really cool that sites like this around for celebrities and such to interact with fans.

So I got on my Twitter and of course, sent him a few tweets to see if he'd reply. I had the honor hanging out with Rick, back stage at a Def Leppard show in 07. But when you meet your idols and favorite musicians etc. You often forget all the things you've always wanted to ask them, always wanted to say and you just tell them how much you love the band, get an autograph or a photo and let them be on their way. I never really want to bother a band before a show. So this was pretty pretty cool.

As I was scrolling through the tweets, i noticed that Rick spells just about everything correctly. He doesn't use the Internet text/chat slang and spell things how they sound use number is in place of words etc. And it got me thinking. I'm not sure if this text/chat slang is a style or if it's just laziness. I know some people who even use this slang on one of those full key pad phones. It just made me think. This guy has one arm, and he doesn't even use this stupid slang while tweeting and such. If some people that I know and many other out there had one arm, they wouldn't even use the same slang. They would spell the first 2 letters of every word and hope people know what they are saying. And when people asked them why they don't text actual words, their excuse would be "Oh, I have one arm."

So, to make a long story short. I sent him two tweets, telling him how great he is and another asking why the band hardly plays any songs of the 90's records live. And he actually replied. It was really cool. These web sites really arent so abysmal after all.

Terminator 3 - Review

Terminator will forever be one of the greatest Science fiction/Action series of all time. The first film is more like a horror, while the second feels more like a head on action flick, even though it's technically a sci-fi. The story is about a killer robot from the robotic war future who is sent back in time to kill the mother of the terminator's enemy leader so the terminators can take over. A solder who is fighting against the terminators is sent back as well, to prevent the death of his leader's mother. The Terminator is very human like and can not be destroyed. It's a Discombobulating story line, but it's very interesting. In the sequel, the main Terminator is reprogrammed and sent back a second time, but this time to protect the human leader, rather then destroy him. The film stars California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as the main terminator in both films. His role as the Terminator is easily his most popular role and the role that gave him is signature movie line "I'll be Back" that is now one of the biggest movie lines in history. At the end of the second film, the Terminator saves the human leader (John Conor) and his mother (Sarah Conor) before killing himself in lava. It was a good ending but an ending that came too soon. Who ends a film series on the second part? I always thought there should of been a third film. It just wasn't over.
In 2003 the 3rd Terminator film, Rise of the machines was announced and I was never more excited. But as much as I wanted this 3rd film, I thought to myself, well, he saved Sarah and John Conor from the Terminators after them before self terminated himself, what was there left to do? I was thinking that this time around there would be a new, amazing story line or a perfect ending. But to my disappointment, it was the same exact film idea as the 2nd. It seems that both Terminator sequels were the same basic ideas as the first. You could only find small twists and differences.
So Terminator 3 picks up about 10 years later. Sarah Conor is dead and John Conor is now in his 20's and living on the streets. The Terminator returns after being reprogrammed by a childhood friend of John Conor to protect her and John from the TX, female anti Terminator Terminator who was sent to kill them both as well as the Terminator. The female Terminator in this film is played by Kristanna Loken. She's really only there for sex appeal and isn't really much of a Terminator. She's definitely cooler then the T100 from the 2nd film as far as how advance of a machine she is. But to see The Terminator fighting a woman is kind of strange.
Anyways, the Terminator rescues John and Catherin from the TX and they begin their mission to stop the end of the world (As they call it) which is really only the beginning of the machine war. Not like they didn't all ready stop the end of the world/beginning of Terminator world in the 2nd film. But this time Sky net (The Terminator war company) is more improved and ready to go.
It's an entertaining action film filled with, car chases, explosions and robot wars. It's the worst of the Terminator films, but still a great movie, and boy, am I lucky I got to see it in the movie theaters.
After the Terminator 3 hype with the film, DVD's, VHS's and video games, everything died down for a while. There was however a recent Terminator TV series that was promoted like crazy, but only lasted about a month or so and the 4th installment about the Terminator was (Terminator Salvation) came out earlier this year. As a little kid, I waited the arrival of the 4th Terminator but don't really care to see it now that it's out. But maybe I'll check it out somewhere down the road.
Terminator 3 - 3 Stars as movie but 5 stars on the action scale

Cobra - Review

Over all, my favorite genre of movies will always be horror. I love horror films but really I do like all films. So for once I'll touch on another popular genre, Action.

The other night I watched Cobra, staring Sylvester Stallone. It's one of those cheesy, predictable action films with the good cop that has a bad attitude. Classic. Just the opening of the flick tells you that your in for a good old fashion, shoot em up, action hero movie. Now some people might say these movies, like the series of Stallone and Schwarzenegger action flicks, are too cheesy and old fashion. But that's all part of the fun. So after seeing Stallone in his more serious roles as Rocky or Rambo, seeing him as just a straight up action hero detective is kind of hard to buy, but he pulls it off.

The story line is pretty basic for the most part. The Cobra (As he as known) is a pretty bad detective, with a leather jacket, sun glasses and a hand gun that has a cobra on it. Oh yeah. A murderer is after a super model and Cobra has been assigned to looking after her. Stallone acts along side ex-wife Brigitte Nielsen once again, after working with her in the 4th Rocky film a year earlier. There is a bid of a love interest between the characters as there usually is in these action movies. The twist is that the murderer has an insider who is feeding him information on where his victim is being held.

Over all it's a pretty good movie but only if you look at it my way. I know it's a pretty calculable movie and Sly plays the basic action hero cop but it's good fun so if your in the mood for a cheesy action flick. Check out Cobra.

5 Stars on the action scale !

Rocky 5 (The worst Rocky film)

Rocky 5, in my opinion, is the best Rocky film since the original. Sure theres Rocky 2, the film where Rocky becomes champion of the world. And sure there's Rocky 3 where Mick dies and Rocky has to fight a monster opponent to win back the champion ship he lost. Rocky looses Apollo and defeats the strongest opponent possible in part 4. And Balboa was great, especially coming out in 2007 after plans for a 6th film were denied repeatedly. But Rocky 5 is a film that surpasses the action flick direction that the series had pointed in, with films like Rocky 3 and 4. After those two films, it was clear that the series was becoming more well known as an action series about Rocky, the boxer who punches people's faces in rather then the under dog, street bum character that one Rocky the award for best picture in 78. It is also for this reason that people hated Rocky 5 so much. After seeing Rocky fight Mr. T and beat Ivan Drago, a Steroid pumped, Russian monster, getting back to where it all started, attempting to end the series on, not another crazy action flick, but a movie that reminds you of who Rocky is and makes you remember the original was a hard turn I guess. The series came full circle taking the character back to the streets of Philadelphia after he looses all his money. Now it's a cheap plot to get Rocky back to his roots but I can't see how els it would of been done. The other problem with this film and the #1 reason why it is hated is Rocky did not fight Tommy Gunn (The bad guy in this film) in the ring. Instead this battle was settled on the streets of Phillie in a good, old fashion, street brawl. It gets pretty scruffy. Just another way of showing the character getting back to where it all started for him.

For me, the film is not about the fighting, it's about this Rocky character and also the memories of this powerful series. It's a pretty sad movie and it gets you thinking, feeling sorry for the character and also reflecting on your own Rocky memories. It's one of those movies that makes you think back to an earlier time in your life where the movie was included. And all though I am only 13, I still think back to living in my old town and the family I once had that I no longer do, watching this. I first saw it when I was about 9. It's strange but it makes sense of you are on of those people that thinks that way and is reminded of thing through film, television or music.

Rocky is really the story of, not a boxer, but a fighter. A man who became the champion of the world, only to loose everything and everybody that he loved. Rocky 5 captured this perfectly and was a perfect end to this amazing series that played a big part in my 13 years as well as many people's lives. As for the 6th film, all though we really did not need it, it topped Rocky 5 and ended the series on a higher note then the 5th film. And what surprises me the most is that Stallone made Rocky Balboa to end the series on a high not and make up for 5, as he puts it. I never understood why Stallone himself let people turn him against his film, that he wrote. You don't write an idea you hate, he did love it, but fake Rocky fans that hated this film because it was not an action flick like 3 and 4 turned him against his own work. Well, Sly, I think it's great!

Rocky will forever be one of the greatest movie series of all time, and with the 7th film on the way, it does not look like the series is quite over.

H20 - Review

So as always, I am happy about any older horror film continuing on with extreme amounts of sequels. And even though sometimes this factor is what destroys a series that could have been perfectly ended, I still love seeing my favorite movie monsters and killers still around in my time. Halloween's H20: 20 years later film is the 7th installment in the Halloween series and one of the most interesting of all the later sequels, in my opinion. In this film Lory Strode returns. She is living under a new name, working for a private school in California, still in fear of her brother coming after her on the anniversary of the day it all happened. The movie reenacts the original in so many scenes, such as the scene where Lorie's student is day dreaming in class and looks out the window to find Michael Myers staring at her, after she turns to the teacher to answers a question, that she explains, she turns back to look and Michael is gone. Lorie also bumps in to another teacher who says "It's Halloween, I guess every body's entitled to one good scare" and she replies "I've had my share" that's awesome. There are also flash backs to the original film and a mentioning of Dr. Lummes, as well as a scene that shows his old house in which he had countless posters and news cut outs of Michael myers and Lorie Strode in. That really shows the Dr. Lummes Character and gives you the feeling of who he is even though he is dead and not in the film. A man who spent his life trying to destroy a monster, but wasted his life because the monster simply could not be destroyed. Towards the end of the film, Lorie goes up against Michael with no fear and goes head to head with him in this big final battle.

The final scene in this film is amazing. When Michael Myers is healed up between a car and a tree and she reaches out to Lorie with what seems to be confusion in his eyes. Lorie puts her hand out and shows a look of "wanting to believe it good be true" in her eyes. Sort of thinking maybe her brother is changing or trying to be loving towards her and she is giving in. But she pulls back and in a split second chops his head off! That's were the Halloween series ends! The greatest finale to one of the greatest horror film series of our time. There could not be a more fitting end.

But of course they had to go ruin it with Halloween Resurrection which was an ok film, but no way to end the series. That being the last Halloween film before the remake sucked.

So Over all, this film gets 3 1/2 stars. A great movie and amazing ending.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the Sand Man song that opened the film, like in Halloween 2...... That was awesome as well.

Long Live Micheal Myers..but for God's sake, not in the hands of Rob Zombie. :)

Friday the 13th (2009) - review

Last night I watched the Friday the 13th 2009 remake and I am ready to lay down my thoughts. First of all, starting from the beginning, I never cared for Friday the 13 films, I only watched them because I loved the Jason Vorhees character. The 1st film was a big hit but I feel it is too basic, a woman killing kids at a camp. The story line is cool, but the film is nothing special to me, same with the 2nd film because it was another plane ordinary killer killing people, nothing special. I guess I really did not get into the series till the later films, part 6,7,8 ect. I always thought they were much more fun. In those films Jason was not just a guy running around killing people, he was a cool looking zombie who wheres an old fashion goalie mask. Now on to the remake. When I heard there was going to be a remake of this film, I was not thrilled! Personally I think some films are better left alone. The first thing everybody noticed about the film was it was a remake of Friday the 13th but Jason Vorhees stared in it, so that ether ment it was a remake of the original film but they changed it so Jason could be the star knowing he was way more of a horror film icon then Mrs. Vorhees ever was or it was a remake of one of the later films. To my surprise it was actually a bit of each. The beginning of the film is the very ending of the original Friday the 13th where the one camp counsler who survived chopped Mrs. Vorhees head off! actually, come to think of it, I can't remember exactly how Mrs. Vorhees was killed, but it's ok, the point has been made. Then it takes you through the 2nd film and the rest of the film is a remake of the 3rd movie. So the whole film is really only a remake of the 3rd film, but that's ok, who would want to see a Friday the 13th remake with out Jason and his hockey mask on anyways, right? But the rest of the film is what you would expect. Kids partying at crystal lake and truly not seeming to mind the fact that Jason stalks Crystal lake even though the characters in the film state that they know who he is and know that he is still alive. When Jason appears and starts killing everybody these kids seem shocked! One thing I always wondered about these films is why these kids want to party in a place where millions of people are killed!!! The One twist is there is a guy driving around the lake asking people if they have seen his sister who Jason is holding hostage under ground! What??? When has Jason ever held people hostage and what is the point of this? He is a murdering zombie, why does he not just kill her??? Well, to make a long story short, the film is everything you would expect from a Friday the 13th film except it is scary and these past years I don't think people feared Jason like they did when the first 3 films came out, I never have, this film makes him scary! One more complaint I have is there was no awesome, scary, Jason zombie face reveling scene like in the other films and the ending was way way way way way to easy and predictable, but it acknowledges the older films rather then start a whole other film that has nothing to do with the older films that made this Jason character a horror film icon for the ages!

Nightmare on elm street remake makes me SICK !!!

I just watched the trailer for the Nightmare on elm street 2010 remake and it made me so angry! I am really sick of these classic horror films being destroyed! Leave these films alone! They are classics for a reason! Hey, I have an idea, why don't these big time Hollywood film makers write a movie, rather then ruin a classic such as Nightmare on elm street?

So here is what upsets me. First of all, the film looks very dark, depressing and hauntingly scary. Like one of those newer horror films out today. Nightmare on elm street scared me as a little kid, but for the most part it's not a scary film, even though it was intended to be. The fact is, all these new horror films that scare you to death make these older films look like the Goose Bump films. Now that happens and I am not trying to say that making this film scary again is a bad thing, but we love it the way it is. It's not the pop ups, screaming or violence that scares us, it's the insane things that go on in this dream world and the very thought of your worst nightmare becoming a reality. The film does not need to be enhanced and redesigned to scare the day lights out of you.
The second thing that upsets me is the timing of this film's arrival. Now I have gone over this many times before and I can't tell you how much it annoys me that these films that really are not that old are being remade as if it is an old film that everyone has forgotten about, especially when the film had a sequel that is not even 10 years old! That is way to soon for a remake. They did the same thing with Friday the 13th and Halloween, it's ridiculous. Lets take a second to review these film's releases, shall we?

Halloween: Resurrection (2002)

Not to say this was not a while ago, but it was not long enough ago for a remake. The thing is, Michael Myers, Jason Vorhees and Freddy Kruger were never forgotten, even by kids my age. Everyone knows who they are and they are still horror icons. Every Halloween they are all over every store and every kid wants to dress up as them for Halloween trick or treating, so why is this the time to remake these films, as if they were forgotten or something. Why not just make another sequel? Now The day the earth stood still for example was just remade, and I wont fight that, because it was a film from 51, that was a long time ago. Of course as a classic horror/Sci Fi fan, I am kind of upset that this film was not left alone, because it's a classic and a real classic at that, a film from well over 20 years ago. But my point being it's not a film that any kid my age (unless they are just like me) would remember and Klaatu, unlike Freddy Kruger, is not a house hold name.

The last thing that upsets me is the Freddy Kruger character. He is nothing like the original and that is a very bad thing. Now I understand that this a remake so they should not keep the original actor in the new film, but in this case, they should consider it, because Robert England is Freddy Kruger. The face, the grin, the attitude, it's all Robert and that could never be recreated or even attempted. The new Freddy, from what I have seen, has no attitude and looks nothing like the original at all. With Jason or Michael Myers, you could find any kid from off the street to play them and it would not matter because they wear masks. But Freddy has a face that is easily recognised and we all know it. Once you lay eyes on the original Freddy, you will never forget him.

So long story short, I don't even want to check out this film. It makes me sick to my stomach and I feel as though my favorite horror film characters will now be lost in the past, overwritten and redesigned to fall in to the category of today's horror films. I understand that remakes are just what they seem, an older film that is remade. But I wish that in this case, considering that this is A Nightmare one elm street we are talking about here, this should be a film that honors and celebrates this amazing film, rather then remake it. But the one cool thing about this film is that it looks like it sticks pretty close to the original as far as remade and redone scenes that were in the original film. You don't see that regularly with remakes when you should and I like that. But if this film hits big, then one of the greatest horror film characters, one the biggest horror icons of my time and one the coolest movie characters ever as we know him will forever be dead.

R.I.P.
Freddy Kruger

A word about Lizzie Mcguire

So when I was younger I was really into the Disney channel. This was before Billy Ray's daughter was ever known for anything but being the child of a one hit wonder singer and the Jonas brothers finally became popular. No, this was back when the Disney channel aired television series like Boy meets world, Even Stevens, That's so Raven and Lizzie Mcguire. They were funny shows that were just what they were meant to be, television shows. It seems that today's new and improved Disney channel shows have taken over the world with shows like Hannah Montana, Zack & Cody, Cory in the house, Wizards of Waverly place and Jonas. It's getting out of hand if you ask me! Every where I go I see High school Musical, Camp rock, & Hannah Montana. It's about time for this to end and let the next cycle of shows have their turn. My point being, these earlier shows were not taking over the world, they were television shows that kids enjoyed. Sure they were popular, but not to such an extreme point.

Today, while flicking through then television channels I stopped on the Disney channel when I saw that Lizzie Mcguire was on. I was actually kind of excited to see this on television again, as this was one of my favorite, if not my very favorite television show from back in the day. It aired when I was 6 and ended when I was 10. Disney even released a Lizzie Mcguire movie in theaters as a way of rapping of the series and sending it out with boom before it is lied down to rest and finished with for good so to speak. I loved this show and even though I have only been alive for 13 years, it was one of those television shows that made me think about my early childhood, back when I was really little. So as I began watching the show I was thinking "This is going to be great, I haven't seen this in so long" but to my surprise, it was terrible!

Now the show ended in 2004 and since then Hillary Duff (Lizzie) has done a lot. She has been in some big time films, she has released some new records and she is a very talented actress if you ask me. But while watching this show now, in 2009, now that I am 13 years old and can see it from an older perspective, I can not understand how this roll as Lizzie Mcguire got her started. I wonder who saw this and said "Hm, we can make something of this girl" who??? If you ask me, this show is full of bad actors, including the adults on the show. The teenagers seem to be at least 15 or 16 years old but they act like they're 10. Looking back on it now, I think I enjoyed this so much as a little kid because I was not old enough to really tell a good actor from a bad actor, because these kids could not act to save their life, it was very unrealistic and hard to sit through.

All in all, I can't watch a show or a film from the Disney channel and go into it taking it seriously, it's the Disney channel! But have to say that today's Disney channel shows and movies have at least decent if not good actors.

Halloween - Review

Well, I know I'm a little late on this review, seeing as how the movie came out in 2007, but now that the Halloween remakes are going to continue (with or with out Zombie) I decided it would be a good time to review the film. After all, I have had over a year to gather my thoughts on it.

First of all, I was not happy about the idea of a Halloween remake. I love the idea of an older film being brought back and remade so that these famous, classic movies are not forgotten, and or ignored by today's generation of kids. On the other hand, a film like Halloween is just too much of a classic to be messed with. Now in the future, people will look back on this film, rather then the real film. Plus I don't think it's an old enough film to be remade, especially because there was another Halloween sequel that came out, only about 6 or 7 years ago. What the heck??? Is that not too soon for a remake? Maybe in 2015 we can remake Twilight.

So if you have not seen the original, Halloween is a story about a young boy who goes insane and becomes a serial killer. It's a very basic idea for a film, but it's not the kind of movie that needs an incredible story line to be good. It was a small low budget film that is now a classic and is famous for introducing one of the most popular horror icons of all time, Michael Myers. The remake keeps the same story line, not changing it in anyway. The big difference between this film and the original film is that this one shows the man behind the mask, in other words the making of this evil man, from a child, to an adult. Now, I was incredibly interested to see how Michael Myers grew up and what went wrong in his life, making him angry enough to murder people for no reason. But at the same time, the fact that you don't know who Michael Myers is or why he does this is part of what makes the original Halloween film so great. You write the story, you write the script. You can make it up in your own mind and try to figure out what it is that you don't know. So I guess I like both versions.

With heavy metal singer and horror film director Rob Zombie directing this film, you know your in for a blood bathed, terrifying, horror film that wont be so easy to forget. I mean that! This movie is bloody as could be and pretty explicit, in every way possible. Now some people see blood and gore as the feature that makes the film good, I, on the other hand, do not see blood and gore as scary, just gross.

So over all, I enjoyed this film as a horror film, but not as a remake of the classic we all know and love. If you think about it as a remake of Halloween, it just makes you compare the two films, if your watching a remake and not comparing it to the original film, you know your watching a good movie. As just a horror film rather then a remake, it's good. I was not thrilled about the classic Michael Myers, Dr. Lumes and Lory Strode characters, as they were nothing like the original characters, in a bad way, and I couldn't bare to watch all the blood, gore and stabbing scenes.

Now, with Halloween 2 out and 3,4 & 5 on the way, I am still upset about these films being remade. But Rob Zombie is right about one thing, Michael Myers as we know him, is still a horror film icon, but is no longer scary, and his Halloween makes you remember how scared you were of Michael Myers, watching the original as a little kid. So I give him kudos for bringing back the horror in this character, but I give him a huge thumbs down for destroying one of the greatest horror films ever!

I'd give this movie a rating of 3 stars
